DIY New Year’s Celebration Kits at Texas Children’s Cancer Center and MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital
December 31, 2021

We’re putting together all the party essentials for families at children’s cancer centers to ring in the new year! The Faris Foundation volunteers are preparing “DIY New Year’s Celebrations Kits” which include: ring pops, chocolate kisses, glow sticks, apple juice and glasses, confetti poppers, party hats/accessories, stickers and tattoos, and a candle, so that every child has the chance to make their own wish for the new year. These special kits will be delivered to patients at Texas Children’s Cancer Center and MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital.

Noon Year’s Eve Party at Ronald McDonald House Houston
December 31, 2021

The Faris Foundation is hosting the party of the year at Ronald McDonald House Houston! Families staying at the House will celebrate “Noon Year’s Eve,” with arts and crafts, games, music, a celebratory lunch, and of course, a Noon Year’s balloon drop and apple juice toast! The Faris Foundation is also providing a professional photographer for family portraits, a rare and precious opportunity for families dealing with challenges on many fronts. We are grateful to our volunteers and generous donors for making this event possible!

We began the year by participating in the National Day of Service with Art is Hope, a virtual workshop and creative community service opportunity.

The Faris Foundation celebrated our 2nd birthday in February with a Love Bug Art Party at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. We also published our 2020 Impact Report.

Winter turned to spring, and creativity was in full bloom! The Faris Foundation supported Creative Arts Week at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and a butterfly-themed art party at TCH

Over the summer, we welcomed Sabrina Rodriguez as the inaugural Faris Foundation Creative Arts Therapy Fellow at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital in New York City. We also released a series of videos around the groundbreaking HEROS 3.0 clinical trial, expanding the public understanding of immunotherapy in treating childhood cancers.

As always, so much happened in September! Melissa Sandoval took on the title of Faris Foundation Music Therapist at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer – a beautiful way to start the “Let There Be Gold” Celebrations! We continued our long-standing tradition of celebrations at Texas Children’s Cancer Center (at multiple campuses, including Vannie Cook in the Rio Grande Valley), and held our first-ever Let There Be GOLD Celebration at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital.

September was full of new partnerships and opportunities: awareness and fundraising with Houston-area Wendy’s locations and select Hampton Inn & Suites locations; public art and education with Houston Independent School District Visual Arts Department and Asia Society Texas Center (reaching over 200,000 students!); a golden public art tour with HTX Art Bus, with 10 unique art-making events throughout the month; a new partnership with Ronald McDonald House Houston; an Instagram takeover of the renowned Inktober account; and our inaugural Brighter Days Golf Classic, which raised over half a million dollars for childhood cancer research and creative arts programs at children’s cancer centers! To learn more about our Public Art + Awareness initiatives, check out The Faris Foundation Art Pass

And of course, our golden partner Prime brought the Let There Be GOLD spirit to over 2,000 AT&T stores from coast to coast. Every year, the Prime team soars to new heights to spread awareness of the GOLD ribbon and all that it represents.
