The Faris Foundation Quarterly: September 2022 Special GOLD Edition ✨

The Faris Foundation Quarterly

September 2022 Special GOLD Edition ✨✨✨

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Faris D. Virani, during his three year journey with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing sarcoma, was bewildered by the lack of public recognition around September and the gold ribbon, the symbolic color for childhood cancer awareness.

Every September, we deepen our commitment to this cause through “Let There Be GOLD,” our public engagement campaign.

There are so many ways to be a part of this initiative! Keep reading to get inspired, get involved, and join us in our mission to bring brighter days and better treatments to children with cancer.

GOLD Celebrations!

Our signature Let There Be GOLD celebrations are underway, with a month-long lineup of sparkling events at Texas Children’s Cancer Center (the nation’s largest pediatric cancer center), MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Houston, and Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital in New York City. We are grateful to the staff of these institutions who have kept the magic of these special celebrations “glowing strong” through COVID and beyond.

GOLDEN Adventure

The Faris Foundation has teamed up with A Kid Again to put a GOLD spin on the organization’s signature Adventures for children with life-threatening illnesses nationwide. This September, hundreds of families across the country will receive a GOLD Art Adventure-in-a-Box with supplies and inspiration for an art-making experience facilitated by Jen Sullivan, The Faris Foundation Art Therapist at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. You can create along with us – stay tuned for the virtual workshop!

Threads of GOLD

Following on the success of last year’s collaboration, The Faris Foundation partnered again with Asia Society Texas Center and Houston Independent School District to host “Threads of GOLD,” a professional development workshop and student art exhibition for HISD visual arts educators and students. Every single art teacher in the district participated in the workshop, facilitated by Vehishta Kaikobad (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston) – that’s over 200 teachers! Each teacher received a GOLD art supply kit to take back to their classrooms, where they will introduce their students to new art-making techniques (such as gold watercolor and illumination), along with the message of Let There Be GOLD.

Students of all ages will then have the opportunity to submit their own artwork for a special Gallery Night at Asia Society in October.

Wear Your Heart on Your Wrist with Wendy’s

Throughout the month of August, select Wendy’s locations across Texas offered the sweetest opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer: customers could purchase Let There Be GOLD wristbands, entitling them to FREE Jr. Frosty’s throughout 2022 and 2023! All proceeds from the sale of the two dollar wristbands will benefit The Faris Foundation. Cheers!
